Thailand Universal Acceptance Webinar and Training Programs
In the past decades, since the earliest days of the Internet, the domain name system has changed a lot. Domain names can now contain local scripts other than Latin, and new top-level domain names, e.g. .online, .tech, .london .ไทย, .ລາວ, .中国. With these changes, email addresses have also changed.
Universal Acceptance is key to achieving a digitally inclusive Internet by ensuring that all domain names and email addresses – regardless of script, language or character length – are accepted (validated, processed, stored and displayed) equally by all Internet-enabled applications, devices and systems. This includes supporting all country code top-level domains (ccTLDs), new and long generic top-level domains (gTLDs) and Internationalized Domain Names (IDNs).
The rise of new domain names, including English and local languages, whether in Thai, Lao or Chinese, etc., is an important issue to support the continued expansion of the Internet. It narrows the language gap for people without English literacy and helps governments and community groups to better serve their communities.
THNIC Academy is organizing the “Universal Acceptance (UA) and Email Address Internationalization (EAI)” project in Thailand to raise awareness of the importance of UA for those involved in the public and private sectors as well as technicians, especially software website developers as well as system administrators. This project also aims to encourage related information system improvements so Thai domain names and email addresses can be received and used correctly.
