BGP Deployment Operations Workshop

Synopsis:

This four-day training course teaches the skills required to help network engineers learn how to deploy interior and exterior routing protocols in a dual-stack (IPv4 and IPv6) network environment.

Workshop topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Dual stack network infrastructure
  • Interior Routing Protocols including IS-IS
  • Border Gateway Protocol (BGP)
  • How to deploy IBGP and EBGP
  • How to scale BGP
  • Route Filtering in BGP
  • Implementing BGP Policies for traffic engineering
  • BGP Best Practices, including Aggregation
  • BGP Troubleshooting
  • BGP Round Table

The skills learned during this course will help improve the day to day operational capabilities of the network operators who take part. This in turn will give a better end-user experience, and will improve the overall stability of the global routing infrastructure.

Objectives:

At the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Configure IS-IS within their network infrastructure, according to industry best practices.
  • Know how to operate a dual stack network, and be aware of the similarities and differences between IPv4 and IPv6.
  • Be conversant in the BGP protocol, and know how to use the different BGP attributes to achieve different policies.
  • Use BGP to efficiently configure multiple connections to different autonomous systems.
  • Be aware of the best practices for using BGP on the Internet today, including Aggregation and Scaling.

Course Duration: 4 days

Date:            20th – 23rd May 2026

Time:           9:00 – 17:30
Venue:       Centara Grand at Central World Bangkok, Thailand

Target Audience:

The course targets the network & systems engineers who are relative new to using routing protocols in their daily job, and who wish to learn more about industry best practice configurations as used by the major operators worldwide. The course is also suitable for network operators who are considering deploying IPv6 across their infrastructure and to their end users.

Pre-requisites:

Workshop participants must have hands-on experience with configuring routers and basic knowledge about routing protocols. The course is designed for participants who are currently using dynamic routing protocols in their network, or planning to deploy BGP on existing external connections.

The lab exercises use Cisco IOS configuration syntax.

Participants must be proficient with a router command line interface, but Cisco experience is not necessary.

Participants must bring laptops with a modern web browser installed (Chrome/Firefox/Safari/Opera).

Participants must also have reviewed the Video Tutorials at learn.nsrc.org, specifically those covering Internet Routing.

Instructors:
